Introduction
Ask a random teenager who’s their favourite superhero; it’s always Batman, Spiderman, Iron Man, Thor, etc. For valid reasons, but here, I’m here to tell the good news about someone else.
Superman You heard it right. The guy is from Krypton, but I don’t want to beat around the bush. The guy is overpowered; he’s boring; he got everything in his life spoon-fed to him; he is not relatable. This is the general opinion about the greatest superhero—crazy, isn’t it?
Body:-
The Idea of Superman
Superman was created by two Jewish people. The idea struck when the Jews committed mass genocide in many countries in between the two world wars. They fled to the US; their lives were miserable. Not just them, but the whole world wanted a symbol of hope—something to aspire to due to the constant prevalence of violence in the world during wars. They had Jewish beliefs; it is written in the Torah that a messiah will come to earth to save the Jewish people. Superman was meant to represent the Jewish messiah.
Superman was the best of us, the perfect being, all powerful, all mighty, and all conquering, so if you actually understand the way Superman was written, you will get why he is so powerful in the first place. He wasn’t meant to be relatable, because he was meant to be a man for the 21st century.
What makes him special?
He’s been the hope that the world needed back then, now, and forever. His sincerity and integrity to create a better tomorrow are what make him special in my book. He chooses to be good; he just wants to do what is right. He wants to help people. He believes that men can be good; they stumble in their path, but they can rebuild. A perfect role model that we mere mortals can aspire to
Let’s take a look at his counterparts:-
Why did Bruce become the caped crusader? Because a thug killed his parents, who traumatised him, he wants to make sure no kid grows through what he goes through. Spiderman: Same here; a thug killed his uncle. He had the opportunity to prevent it, but he didn’t; thus “With great power comes great responsibility.". Superman’s reasons are as simple as the farmer family raising him that way.
The qualities I mentioned above are a double-edged sword; you simply can’t write a good story about Superman. Just like that, you have to be a very good writer to craft a Superman story. It involves more philosophy than cinematic plots. Making the audience care about Superman is a huge headache, as he is the all-conquering god who is just supposed to live in a mortal world.
Conclusion:
In this callous world, we all need some optimism. I think the man of tomorrow clinched it effectively. He’s the best role model out there for people to look up to.
