My Viva la Vida

Inspiration for me to write this:

I was writing my M4 exam today. My mind fully stopped functioning, getting blank in the process. As painful as the situation was, I had to get to grips with the reality that it was another arrear. The rhythm of Viva la Vida and the strings of the violin accompanying it started taking control over my body. reminding me to think about the lyrics.

“I used to rule the world.
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning, I sleep alone.
Sweep the streets I used to own.

I used to roll the dice.
Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes.”

As soon as those lines struck, I was able to reminisce about my math empire.

My Math Dynasty:

Here’s how it unfolds: This might sound cliche, but with me and others, there’s a day and night difference. The difference was that those people worked hard, earned their marks, and were magnificent in all subjects. Meanwhile, for me, other than math, I was averagely getting 50 to 60% in other subjects; nonetheless, in mathematics, regardless of how unprepared I’m, I will get a minimum of 85%. One of the very few nice nicknames I got in school was Little Ramanujam, for we learned about that bloke in our 7th grade Tamil book. He is also like previous me shit in other subjects but excelled in math.

I aced mathematics; no one can come close. I was ahead of the curve.

Since the day I knew about mathematics, it has never been a serious subject for me.

Many boys got stressed when math exams were on the horizon. The days before math exams were the most relaxed days for me. I carried that sense of smugness always. Intelligent being the son of a prick disrespecting the subject, I was young and fearless.

If you deep it, you would know that in the question paper, there’s always an easy and difficult one in choice questions, and I always choose the difficult one.
Like, by choosing the difficult one, I thought I was conveying to the one’s who choose the easier one, like, I’m better than you, to quote a movie quote , “Now I Am Become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds.”

Quick calculations when the staff is teaching on the board I’m that mundirikottai in class shouting the answer. Like a fool

Teaching all my homies sums that will definitely help them score marks

Truly, I say to you, I was ahead of the curve.

The moment it went downhill:

It was the 9th standard half-yearly math exam for the first time. I don’t know how to proceed in a sum, and that was the first of the many slipper shots I got.

In that exam, I scored 68. Back then, I thought it was a real blow for me, but looking back with the hindsight of current James, it would be my highest mark in the coming years. The downfall of my math empire begins at that moment.

Corona saved my ass in 2020, or else I would be kicked out of school for low marks.

scoring a merely pathetic 42/100 in 12th. It’s a miracle I got an engineering seat without paying a single penny in donations. I don’t know what good deeds I have done to get that opportunity.

I will get my M1 paper in the coming week. I at least have to clear it up, or I would be good for nothing.

Thanks for reading 😊
